work has started on a new visitor centre for the Kelpies , Helix Park, Grangemouth. The new £1.45m visitor centre will feature a restaurant, retail area, visitor information and facilities and an audio-visual experience. At the moment the only income the Park generates is from guided tours including a look inside the Kelpies .
The Kelpie horse-head sculptures are the the UK's biggest pieces of public art.The £43m Helix parkland project has already won number of awards .
The project, on land between Falkirk and Grangemouth, created a large new public green space, a kilometre of new canal and towpaths, a lagoon and a 16-mile (26km) cycle route around the area.
The project has been a huge success with about 800,000 visitors to the site since the Kelpies were launched in April.
